So Portsmouth City Council Workers are taking an avaerage of 8 and half days sick through out the year. that works out at roughly 31,000days lost because of illness between February 1st, 2017 and January 31, 2018. the number surges to more than 50,000 when you add those staff that are employed at council run schools. Figures have shown that this is a slight reduction from the previous year.
THe council has said themselves "that the target is only 7 days". five of the councils 12 departments are over the corporations target of 7 days sickness, while 3 more departments recorded an average of 10 days or more, this includes Adult Services who recrorded an average of 12.47 days of sick and Public Health who recorded 12.6 days sick.
Councillor Luke Stubbs the council's Health Boss said that "the Authority was doing well to drive the sickness rates down" but added "that there was still work to do". The Vast majority of absences were due to issues such as Musculoskeletal issues - Anxiety/Stress - Cold/Flu/ Viruses as well as Psychological problems.
