IMF issues warning on global debt

The International Monetary Fund says that high global debt is a concern. In a new report, the IMF says governments should use the current strong economic growth to strengthen their finances. The organisation also says that risks to global financial stability have increased. It does, however, also say that the banking sector has become more resilient since the global financial crisis. Clydesdale Bank sets aside extra £350m for PPI claims

The owner of Clydesdale and Yorkshire banks is setting aside another £350m to handle tens of thousands of unexpected claims for mis-sold payment protection insurance (PPI). The announcement by CYBG came after the group saw the number of claims surge to 59,000 in the six months to 31 March. CYBG said it anticipated another 110,000 by the complaints deadline set for August next year. The lender's share price fell by about 6% in early trading on Wednesday. ... BBC News

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle begin Commonwealth work

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have begun their work with the Commonwealth Youth Forum in London. The couple were introduced to about 40 of the 500 young leaders as part of the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) week. The Youth Forum, which Harry opened on Monday, is being held at the Queen Elizabeth II Conference Centre. Harry said Ms Markle was "hugely excited" to be joining him in his duties. ... BBC News

De La Rue abandons passport appeal

De La Rue has abandoned its plan to appeal against the government's decision to award a contract to make UK passports to a Franco-Dutch company. The UK firm said that since its announcement on 22 March, it had "considered all options". De La Rue also issued its second profit warning in less than a month, saying income would be around £60m to £65m.
